The E-ChronELKle (the email version) has been so well accepted I will be publishing it every month with a text version being publish in the middle of the month, or as needed, to cover any late changing happenings. The E-ChronELKle will cover day to day happenings at the Lodge as well as important State and Grand Lodge News.
I will continue to make whatever corrections are required to make this a document you look forward to read and use. Thank you for your support, Bill Wiseman, Editor. Hope you enjoy!!
Exalted Ruler's Message
Grand Lodge was in Austin, Texas and I was priviledged to attend the 149th session of Grand Lodge representing your Lodge. It was good to meet the Exalted Rulers from Nevada and across the country. I voted on 18 resolutions. A copy of these resolutions and the results of the voting is located in the Secretary's office, along with my convention report. I witnessed the installation of our new Grand Exalted Ruler Thomas S. Brazier and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Nevada South, our own Bill Wiseman. We will be hosting DDGER Bill Wiseman's first DD Clinic Saturday, 11 August at 10:00 AM. We need as many of you as can spare the time to come to the lodge and show Bill our fullest support and pride for a big achievement for the lodge. We are, at this time, very much in need of volunteer bartenders for 3-7 PM on Thursday and Friday. We also need Members to step up and help fill the Leading Knight and Tiler positions as well as help with all of our committees. I know you have heard these pleas from PER's John Stevens and Bill Wiseman for several years now, but just because we have nearly all new officers it has not eliminated the need for your help!
The Austin GL Convention brought about changes requiring By-Laws revisions and additions. I appointed Bill Wiseman, John Stevens, Ken Bazar and Tom Smith to review both our By-Laws and House Rules and make suggestions to the membership at the meeting in August so they may be reviewed and voted on at the meetings in September. The changes to the House Rules are primarily "housekeeping" issues to previously approved changes and a change involving a possible corkage fee for those Members wishing to bring in their own wine. The change to the By-Laws is to permit the Exalted Ruler, by vote of the floor, to use the shortened version of the opening and closing ritual as well a dramatically shortened version of the initiation ritual.
Just a reminder due to slow activity and lack of volunteers our Summer hours are 3-7 PM Tuesday through Friday. We need you all to come to the Lodge and help keep our bartenders busy. Thank you for the support I know you all will provide to the Lodge and its officers.

We are looking for volunteers to cook Friday Night dinners. This can be a specialty you would like to share with your fellow members and their guest. The only thing we ask is you try to keep the cost per serving under $4.00 with a sell price of $9.00, other than that it is up to your imagination. The Officers have decided to discontinue Officers Brunch due to the officers having insufficient time to participate.
Lodge Meetings
There will be only one meeting held in August scheduled for 7 August. Remember meetings start at 7:00 PM sharp. Initiation is scheduled for the August meeting. Come to the meeting, meet the new Members and welcome into the Lodge! Remember, 4 September is Bill Wiseman's official visit to Lodge as the newly installed DDGER Nevada South. We need you all at the Lodge to show our guest the enthusiasm and support I know you all can!
Flag Retirement Ceremony
Saturday, September 8, Cub Scout Pack #304 and the Officers of Henderson/Green Valley Lodge #2802 will be holding a joint “Flag Retirement Ceremony” for old, worn-out national flags at the Henderson/Green Valley Lodge. All members are encouraged to participate in this very patriotic ceremony. The U.S. Flag Code states: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
Come join us in showing our respect for all those having lost their lives on that dark day in American history - 11 September 2001.
School Supplies
It is nearing that time year again when the children are getting ready to go back to school. As we do every year we are putting out a plea for school supplies for the kids at Robert Taylor and CT Sewell Elementary schools. We need your assistance with their much needed school supplies.
Some of the supplies we need are: wide-ruled paper (please, no spiral bound note pads), crayons (I suggest the 24 ct boxes), plastic ruler, blunt end scissors, school glue, and boxes of facial tissue. Please, no pencils as they have way more than they need at the present. They can also us backpacks. Please drop off any items you may collect at the lodge.
Message from Thomas S. Brazier GER
Elks shine'Beacon of Hope' across America
As Venita and I begin this wonderful journey around our country to meet the Members and spouses of our great Order, I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the confidence you’ve shown in us by electing me your Grand Exalted Ruler. I can’t express how honored and humble I feel by you entrusting me with this incredible opportunity to represent you.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is the foremost fraternal organization in the United States. And, as such, we all bear an immense responsibility to continue to carry out our obligation as Members in the Order and to do everything in our power to see that our national and state programs are robust and dynamic.
As you reach out to new Members, to our veterans, to our children and to each other, I would ask that you keep my motto, “Elks – A Beacon of Hope,” as a guiding principle in all you do. We have all experienced the gratitude of a veteran when we simply say “Thank you for your service,” or perhaps just share a little of our time with them.
We have experienced the joy in students’ faces when they realize that a scholarship from the Elks now puts college within their reach. We may have even experienced the joy of hearing the laughter of a physically or mentally challenged child as they take their first step, say their first words or go to summer camp for the first time.
Elks truly are “Beacons of Hope” in our country. Look for ways to let your light shine in your Lodge and in your community.
My goal for the Elks National Foundation will remain at $4.50 per Member. As the “Great Heart of Elkdom,” the ENF extends its benefit to every state and touches every program. I ask that you all work diligently in your Lodges to meet and even exceed this goal for the coming year. Investing in the ENF is money well spent. Remember,
Again, thank you for your trust. We will work hard to justify it. Venita and I look forward to spending time with you, getting to know you all and experiencing, firsthand, the scope and breadth of the amazing work of our
great Order.
GL Newsletter, August 2012 Fraternal Committee:
Consolidated committees at work
Local Lodges nationwide are reminded of the consolidation of committees that is currently under way beginning with the 2012-13 Grand Lodge year.
The newly formed Activities and Fraternal committees now incorporate many of the committees and programs with which Elks Members have become familiar over the years and decades. The consolidation was authorized by a vote of delegates at the 2011 Grand Lodge Session in Phoenix.
At the Local Lodge level, the Activities Committee is now in charge of public relations, drug awareness, Hoop Shoot and other youth activities, as well as other activities of civic, social and community interest.
The Activities Committee is also charged with supervising one program solely identified as Elks-sponsored within the jurisdiction of the Lodge and developing other community projects that emphasize the charitable works of the Order.
The Fraternal Committee at each Lodge is charged with preparing Flag Day as well as other patriotic ceremonies; holding the annual Elks Memorial Day service; and recuiting, investigating and orientating candidates for membership in the Order.
At the Grand Lodge level, the responsibilities of both the now-defunct Youth Activities and Public Relations committees have been transferred to the newly created Activities Committee, which is also responsible for assisting Local Lodges with their community projects.
Separately, the responsibilities of the now-defunct Americanism, Membership and Lodge Activities/State Associations committees have been folded into the new Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee.
Also at the 2011 Grand Lodge Session, delegates abolished the Grand Lodge Government Relations Committee. (They reinstated it at the 2012 Session.) The Grand Lodge Auditing and Accounting Committee remains unchanged.
